Supporting Your Loved One in Taking More Control of Their Own Life With (more) Independent Living Arrangements

Developing one's independent living skills offers so much to our loved ones - from improved self-sufficiency to improved self esteem and connection to the community in which we live. There are resources to assist with this - when your loved one is ready.  You do not have to do this alone.

RESOURCES:

Housing: Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services has a Housing Guide on finding housing under different conditions and considerations.  The associated workbook is here.  Especially see the first form, the Housing Search Checklist which is on page 5 of the pdf.

Here is North Alameda County's Contact List for Centers for Independent Living.

*Community Resources for Independent Living operates in South Alameda County in Hayward, Tri-Cities, and Tri-Valley areas.  Services Include: housing assistance, personal assistance referral, benefits advocacy, and independent living skills training and other supports.

The California Department of Rehabilitation assists individuals who have disabilities with Independent living - including employment. Disabilities may be physical or mental.  Services include vocational training, transportation, education, referrals for services and counseling among others.
