Supporting Your Loved One in Taking More Control of Their Own Life With (more) Independent Living Arrangements

Untitled document

Developing one's independent living skills offers so much to our loved ones - from improved self-sufficiency to improved self esteem and connection to the community in which we live. There are resources to assist with this - when your loved one is ready.  You do not have to do this alone.

RESOURCES:

Housing: Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services has a Housing Guide on finding housing under different conditions and considerations.  The associated workbook is here.  Especially see the first form, the Housing Search Checklist which is on page 5 of the pdf.

Here is North Alameda County's Contact List for Centers for Independent Living.

*Community Resources for Independent Living operates in South Alameda County in Hayward, Tri-Cities, and Tri-Valley areas.  Services Include: housing assistance, personal assistance referral, benefits advocacy, and independent living skills training and other supports.

The California Department of Rehabilitation assists individuals who have disabilities with Independent living - including employment. Disabilities may be physical or mental.  Services include vocational training, transportation, education, referrals for services and counseling among others.
