The Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services will be meeting with African-American families April 28th on coping with mental health challenges and substance abuse.  The meeting will be at the East Oakland Senior Center from 9:30 to 2:30.
The FERC is looking for an Administrative Assistant and a Family Advocate and it might be YOU!!

ACBHCS Meets with African-American Families



The Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services will be meeting with African-American families April 28th on coping with mental health challenges and substance abuse.  The meeting will be at the East Oakland Senior Center from 9:30 to 2:30.

African American Families to hear from

Behavioral Health Care leadership

 

The Behavioral Health Care Services Interim Director and Medical Director will speak at the April 28th meeting for African American Families on coping with mental health and substance abuse issues. The meeting will be held at the East Oakland Senior Center from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Carol Burton, Interim Director of Behavioral Health Care Services will focus on helping families cope with issues involving alcohol and other drugs. She will also talk about the major expansion of services for people with substance use disorders which begin in July.

Medical Director Dr. Aaron Chapman will talk about the causes and treatment of mental illnesses. He will also lead a workshop on the use of psychiatric medications.

The meeting also features workshops lead by experts from the Family Education and Resource Center on navigating the treatment system and on self-care for family caregivers. Members of the African American Family Support Group, which is sponsoring the meeting, will talk about their experiences in helping their own family members.

The meeting features a free lunch for those who register by calling 510-697-8533 or by going to EventBrite and typing in African American Families meeting. The registration deadline is April 25th.
