Getting Help in a Crisis

Getting Help in a Crisis

If you or someone close to you is experiencing a crisis due to mental illness or emotional disturbance, and may be imminently dangerous to others or self, you should call 911.

Crisis Support Service of Alameda County, Crisis-line is available 24-hours (all ages) Call 1-800-309-2131

One of the best things families can do is to have as a mutual goal with their loved one to prevent a crisis whenever possible through such activities as

  • identifying early warning signs of a pending downward spiral and
  • knowing what your loved one finds supportive at such a time, and then doing/trying these things.

If your loved one is able – developing a WRAP plan helps with this.

Gaining an understanding of each step of the crisis response and crisis stabilization process will help – as well as ‘what to do’ at each step.
